Gichin Funakoshi book

I am reading “The Essence of Karate” by Shotokan grand master Gichin Funakoshi and I came across this quote:


This is exactly why I decided to dust off my Gi and practice Okinawan Karate again. Instinctively, I knew that with vigorous karate training I would prevent my recent back injury I experienced and going forward I really need it to stay on the path.
Before karate, Bodhidarma, some 1400 years ago was teaching Shaolin monks that working on matters of mind and spirit was not effective without strong body, the warrior monks of Shaolin left us this heritage to follow by the way of Okinawa masters.
I have to get back to my own roots and reignite the path of spirit, mind and budo.
