Spring Break blog readership

 I noticed that people do not read my blog during the spring break.

I would not otherwise notice this fact, but we decided to take vacation during the spring break after a very long and glumly rain season in Pacific North West (PNW). Supposedly, this is a thing to do here to get some sunshine and Hawaii is only a short “puddle hop” away.

In any case, I appears that during the spring break in early April, the readership is significantly down. I was expecting about 20,000 visits, but I only got half of that.

I guess, that instead of sitting at their desks and daydreaming, people actually go out and do sailing, diving and mountain climbing!

Key takeaways include:

Choosing a Niche: Focus on a specific topic you're passionate about to attract a dedicated audience.
Creating Quality Content: Consistently produce valuable and engaging posts to keep readers returning.
Monetization Strategies: Explore methods like:
  • Affiliate marketing,
  • sponsored posts, and

How to syntax color the code inside the blockquote HTML tag?

That is a good, if not easy, problem to solve!

In the result, I would like to take the following code in <blockquote> tag

function fold(initial, desired)
    folds = 0 # initial number of folds
    achieved = initial # initial thickness
    results = []
    while true
        achieved = achieved * 2 # fold
        #if achieved >= desired break end # if you want to exit before achieving
        push!(results, achieved) # add to results
        folds = folds + 1 # increment
        if achieved >= desired break end # if you want to exit after achieving
    end
    return results
end

 and color it by the language-specific keywords to look something like that:

What are the steps I would take?

  1. In JavaScript, I would find the next blockquote element
  2. Extract the text from it
  3. Parse the comments ( from # to the end of the line)
  4. Parse text by the white space (preserving white space)
  5. Compare each WORD token to the dictionary of the reserved word
  6. Do something about variable names
  7. Do something about variable values
  8. Wrap reserved words in <span color> tags
  9. Re-assemble to content of the <blockquote>

Since this is a several-evenings project, I will leave it for later.

Embedding a GoogleDoc as a iframe in a BlogSpot.com post

Today, I decided to organize my writings, and since I find Google Docs the best way to compose, I was looking for a way to "PUBLISH" them in another way than ePubs.

Google Docs page has two options: to publish the whole document, hosted by docs, and EMBED the document on another website, in my case uki.BlogSpot.com.

Embedding uses the <iframes> [horror music playing in the background].

The <iframes>, people have been hating them since the '90s, yet we are still using them.

I have spent an embarrassingly long time (ashamed to mention how long) trying every HTML attribute combination with width, height, <DIV>, and multiple JavaScript replacement and resize methods.

All of them failed.

Finally, I went back to my experience circa 1999  @ RollingStone.com and said, if everything else fails, put it in the TABLE grid and format the grid to your liking. It worked just how I wanted.

I posted the solution on Stackoverflow.com as no one reads my blog: https://stackoverflow.com/a/72750122/6312771

<table width="100%" height="800px" border="0"> <tr> <td> <iframe src="https://docs.google.com/document/d/e/2PACX-1vTaRY68GO9FWHU8K64bqGUVD1V_FKxKqlpeeEBT44UZvwe_vi62hDh-yJM5bKPrDR6B-a96BeRTzejx/pub?embedded=true" frameborder="0" height="100%" width="100%"> </iframe> </td> </tr> </table>

One year later

It has been almost a year since I wrote anything besides technology articles on my blog.

It may be related to the fact that I have not read any real books, which is unlike me, considering the thousands of books I own.

I do read every day and study a lot.

I make good use of YouTube, but somehow, I have lost my drive for writing.

I have been trying to decide what platform to use for writing, such as Blogger, Medium.com, Google Docs, etc. I have several documents (books) started, but I fear they will never see the light of day.

On the other hand, blogs feel eclectic and irrelevant. Nevertheless, here I am writing this.

I am writing tonight with the lights out, using my large Android tablet and a pen stylus, and I must say it is fast and flawless.

Let's hope I can get back to writing as a habit. Maybe these blog notes will become material for a book someday.

Tools for Writing This Book

After trying several writing software tools,
we found it frustrating that only Google Docs allowed online real-time sharing between multiple reviewers and various devices.
Even with Google Docs, editing on the tablet is far from satisfactory.

When we are "on the go", the Twitter, Facebook and recently Google+ to be useful repository of our thoughts, Uki maintains a saying:

“I’m writing an books 140 characters at a time.”
Finally, we decided to write our thoughts down as blog posts.

Book "ProBlogger" by Darren Rowse and Chris Garrett

Even if this is not strictly a technology book, since most of us "geeks" are bloggers, I highly recommend it.

Although I've been blogging for most of the last seven years, this book provided many useful tips that helped me give my blog direction.

2003-07-24 Bay Colony

We closed on the condo in [[Bay Colony]] today.
Went without major events. Took about 1.5 hours.
Our lawyer, John T., is a pretty cool guy. He also has an '86 [[Toyota Supra]].

I am getting the possession of the place tomorrow night, really cannot wait!
Especially the swimming pool sounds good.
