Chicago's Top 100 Digital Companies

I would recommend a great article in Forbes about startups in Chicago by Kelly Reid with infographics by Adam Calica.


Snippet:

"The 193 companies founded in 2011 bucks the trend; there were only 170 companies founded in the prior two years, indicating very positive growth. 193 startups in a year amounts to a new company founded every two days. While we might not have the raw numbers that the Valley has, we have the growth."

FoodTrucks on Chicago Local Guide - Twitter Geo-location

You can now help us locate your favorite food truck by tweeting from where they are at with GEO-location enabled. Your tweet will show on the map as a semi-transparent circle. The tweets from the food trucks will show as icons, but only for short time and when geo-location is on.

To turn on the geo-location when tweeting, find the toggle switch (upper left in Plume)...

Taxi Share Chicago allows you to easily and quickly share a taxi with someone else going to the same popular destination (Wrigley Field, U.S. Cellular, Downtown, O'Hare, Midway, etc.).

How it works:

Select your destination, look for others on the map going to the same place (each traveler is represented by a color coded dot corresponding to their destination). Tap their dot/icon and a chat window will appear. Exchange a quick text to confirm your desire to share the ride and that's it! Whoever hails a cab first picks up the other person! The first time you use the app, you will be asked to enter a first name or alias that you can change anytime using the menu function.

Extras:

The menu function will allow you to call a cab company directly, turn your phone into a flashing beacon (signaling your color coded destination) and allow you to input your favorite destinations.

Sailing 37 foot Jeanneau out of Monroe

The wind was very light, at most 7 knots South-East, no waves, so there was not much work on the boat, but to relax and soak up the sun. 

Jeanneau 37 is a beautiful boat inside and out.

It is set up for charters with all the running lines to the cockpit and with the in-mast furling mainsail that makes it very easy to operate.

You can get this perspective on Chicago ONLY from water, people who are not yachties miss the point of living in this town.

This is as far as we sailed today, the turning mark, from, and to the Monroe Harbor. Not far, but again there was barely any wind.

Lil Walkabout visiting air show in Chicago

This is about halfway between Chicago and Winthrop, IL (North Point Marina).

You may see how much smog there is over Chicago, part of that was caused by hundreds of boats and the air show.

The water was almost flat all the way.

I have been staying in Belmont Harbor since Friday, August 8, 2008.

15 HP on Tuesday.

Next weekend is the "Air and Water Show" in Chicago, and I am thinking to stay
and see it before sailing up to North Point Marina.
